Supporting Enrollment through Diversity & Inclusion:
- Launch of a Graduate Student Success Center: Founded this centre in 2020 in order to help students access internships, employment, research scholarships, as well as leadership opportunities through peer mentoring and alumni roles. (JJAY/CUNY, 2020-2022)
- Inclusive Student-Centered Learning Environment: Drove a vision of creating an inclusive student-centered learning environment where students excel, while supporting the college’s academic and financial performance and growth. (JJAY/CUNY, 08/2020-2022)
- Diversity and International Institute Launch: Founded and directed operations of the institute, with a mission of delivering best practices in diversity training, and in comparative, international, diversity and development education. (Dowling College, 2012-2016)
- Internships: Negotiated agreements with 200+ agencies to ensure student internships. (JJAY/CUNY, 2020-2022)
- Annual Graduate Research Symposium: Developed and ran the first annual Graduate Research Symposium for Dowling College in 2003, and 12 subsequent symposiums (Dowling College, 2003-2016). Later, developed and ran the first Graduate Research Symposium in 2021 and a symposium the following year. (JJAY/CUNY, 2021-2022)
- Mentorship Program for Doctoral Students: Launched a program for alumni and faculty to serve as mentors to Ed.D. doctoral students. This program contributed to Dowling College reaching a doctoral retention rate of 85% (vs. the national average was 42% from 2009-2015. (Dowling College, 2003-2016)
- Career Expo: Developed several career-oriented expos throughout the year where employers and students met industry experts and hiring managers and discussed their needs (JJAY/CUNY, 2020-2022)
- Focus Career Expo: Developed career expos for niche populations, such as return citizens (ex-convicts), bilingual populations and adults returning to the workforce (FSC/SUNY, 2016-2020)
- Alumni Outreach Activities: Invited alumni to attend symposiums and to participate in social media interviews. Alumni are offered career services and mentorship opportunities on campus. Dowling College (2009-2016), LIEOC (2016-2020) and JJAY/CUNY (2020-2022)
Leadership
- Staff & Faculty Leadership: Create a collaborative environment that supports faculty needs; provide leadership for faculty/staff recruitment, development, evaluation and retention; also, conduct assigned reviews of tenure track faculty, as a member of the Faculty Personnel Committee. Professional Development & Training:
- Training on Student Services: Planned and delivered training to faculty & staff on diverse topics student services, multicultural responsive student services and conflict management. (JJAY 2020-2022)
- Professional Development Retreats: Hosted a professional development retreat every semester for faculty and staff, with a focus on topics, such as poverty understanding, conflict management and multicultural responsive curricula (FSC, 2016-2020)
- Cultural Sensitivity & Micro-Aggression Training: Planned and delivered training to faculty and staff on best practices on working with non-traditional students and people of color. (Dowling College, 2012-2016)
- Training on Enhancing the Quality of the International Student Experience: Planned and delivered training to faculty and staff on understanding and meeting the needs of international students. This training also focused on comparative, international, diversity and development education. (Dowling College, 2012-2016)
Mentorship:

Funding:
- Faculty/Students Research Grant: Secured grant for student/faculty research collaboration from HEERF $195k. (2021)
- Student Services Funding: Secured $250K funding for student activities and then secured $1.5M post-COVID funding to support student retention. (JJC/CUNY, 08/2020)
- HEERF Funding: Currently, I oversee approving the distribution of a $10 million budget for The Graduate Studies program from three sources: revenue from an extra fee over the tuition (for the master’s programs); a percentage of the tuition revenue called online incentives (for the Online Masters programs). Due to my diligence, and for the first time for the college, I secured $1.5 million in funding for the HEERF support and $250K from other sources. (JJAY, 2021)
- Performance Grants Renewals: At LIEOC, I was successful in renewing performance grants and obtaining new ones, and in increasing external funding by $900K. (LIECO, 2019)
- Performance & External Grants: Successful in renewing performance grants and obtaining new ones, including $900K in external funding (WIOA) in 2018 (SUNY FSC, 2017-2020)
- Diversity Grants: Received grant for Student Awareness of Different Cultures (Dowling 09/2012)
- National Science Foundation Grant: Worked collaboratively on securing a $350K National Science Foundation Grant for research on RELATE (2001) (MIT, 2001-2003)
- Outreach to Start-Up & Financial Community: Connected with the start-up business community as well as wealthy business communities Brought prestige and admiration to Monterrey Tech’s Graduate Business School thought collaboration agreements with the Mexican Financial industry (ITESM (Monterrey Institute of Technology), Business School, 1993-1998)
- Contributed to John Jay College achieving its highest retention rate over the last 5 years. Inclusive Environment. Contributed to John Jay College achieving a 33% increase in enrollment, in part by ensuring an inclusive student-centered learning environment and by expanding the range of relevant academic programs offered. Successful in increasing Graduate Studies enrollment during the pandemic, and in attracting a more diverse group of students. (JJC/CUNY, 2021-ongoing)
- Strategic Retention Plan: Due to an implementation of a clear plan for retention, GS reached the highest retention rate in the last five years. (2021-2022)
- Retention: Provided a transformational change, LIEOC became number one (compared with the 12 EOCs in the state) in enrolment, retention, completion and placement. (SUNY FSC, 2017-2020)
- EOC: At SUNY Farmingdale, I boosted enrollment, leading LIEOC to rank number one in enrollment, retention, and completion among all the 12 EOCs across New York State. (FSC/SUNY, 2017)
- International Students: Negotiated an agreement that brought 100 undergraduate business students from Mexico to Dowling College (2015)
- Enrollment Results: Increased enrollment in Educational Administration, Leadership & Technology Dept while graduation enrollment were decreasing across the USA due to the economic crises (e.g. contributed to increase of enrollment by ~30% in both the Advanced Certificate in Technology enrollment, and in the online Leadership certificates courses) (Dowling College, 2009-2011)
- Diverse Students: At Dowling College, contributed to an increase in the number of diverse students in the doctoral program from 24% to 35% (2008 to 2011). By 2014, 60% of the enrollees in the doctoral program were diverse students. (Dowling College, 2008-2012)
INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS
Technology:
- Innovation & Tech Leadership: Currently, I am a board member of the National Technological Services at Higher Education, which keeps me current with the state-of-the-art pedagogical and instructional technology for colleges. (John Jay College, 2022)
- Master’s in Education Leadership Technology: Developed state-of-the-art programs, such as Master’s in Educational Leadership Technology (online), and several advanced certificates, as well as curricula for all tech leadership courses. (Dowling College, 2012)
- Advanced Certificate in Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation: Developed an Advanced Certificate in Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation that includes overseas experiential learning (hybrid). (John Jay College, 2020)
- Virtual Entrepreneurship Program: Created niche programs for workforce development, such as the Virtual Entrepreneurship Program. (LIEOC Farmingdale, 2017)
- President of a Chamber of Commerce (New York, 2014-2016)
- Taught Entrepreneurship in a business school for 5 years.
- Bilingual Nursing: A bilingual Nurse’s Assistant Certification. (LIEOC Farmingdale, 2017)
- Test Prep for Army: The Test Prep for Army, and a bilingual Nurse’s Assistant Certification. (LIEOC Farmingdale, 2017)
- Program Delivery: Oversee program design, marketing, scheduling and delivery, including Study Abroad programs and the creation new academic programs and experiential learning opportunities in response to market needs and trends (e.g. in areas such as civic engagement, social entrepreneurship, STEM, sustainability); also, streamline secondary-to-postsecondary articulation and seamless transfer (JJC/CUNY, 08/2020-on)
International Partnerships:
- Partnerships with OAS, World Learning & Other International Organizations: Built partnerships with international organizations (e.g. OAS, World Learning). (Dowling College, 2012-2016). Began an international cohort in the Advanced Certificate in Computers in Education. (OAS, Dowling College, 2009-2012), Brought cohort of international students for our doctoral programs. Brought 100 Mexican students for business undergraduate programs.
- Connections with Community: Successfully opened several satellites across Long Island due to connections with the community. (SUNY FSC, 2017-2020).
- Community Outreach Programs, K-12: Due to my International and Diversity Institute director role, I have connected with the community and created several outreach programs for K-12 high school principals and counselors. (Dowling College, 2014)
- Outreach Activities, Entrepreneurial: In charge of outreach activities, in which the faculty voluntarily connected with the entrepreneurial community by providing advice to local businesses (John Jay College, 2020-ongoing)
- Long Island College Summit: Held Long Island Summits to motivate High School minorities students to go to higher education. Increased undergraduate enrollment by $500,000 in tuition per year. (Dowling College, 2013-2015)
- Principals Academy: Active contributor at the Principals’ Academy exploring themes such as drop-out rates and the decision to pursue higher education. This attracted Principals that latter become doctoral students. (Dowling College, 2003-2016)
Strategic Planning:
- Technology Strategic Plan: Key in developing the technology strategic plan for the college with participation of all faculty, administrators, and external experts (2010-2012). Served as Chair of the Technology Task Team of the College (2012-2014). (Dowling College, 2010-2014)
- Managed state and grant fund budget oversight ($5M); oversaw, monitored and evaluated the use of budgeted resources to ensure budget use was fully aligned with SUNY’s priorities
