
Elsa-Sofia Morote has 25 years’ experience as a professor at colleges and universities in the States of New York and Pennsylvania, overseas and online. Dr. Morote attended the University of Lima (BS. Engr., 1988), the Teaching Center for Research and Economics in Mexico (MPA, 1992), Carnegie Mellon University (MS, 1996), the University of Pittsburgh (Ed.D, 2001) and International School of Management, Paris (PhD, 2020). She did postdoctoral work at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (2001-2003). She is an international scholar and has received several awards in each country she has lived in, including: best engineering thesis (NSF-Peru); top student in the Master’s program (CIDE-Mexico), student honoree in the doctoral program (University of Pittsburgh –USA), best research paper at a conference (IBEC – India), best experimental research paper (IHEM – France), and Latina Hat Community Advocate Award (Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, USA).

Dr. Elsa-Sofia Morote was the Dean of Graduate Studies at John Jay College of Criminal Justice (8/20-9/22). The Graduate Studies served 2,700 students per semester. It has 13 Masters programs and 15 advanced certificates. In addition, Dr. Morote also oversees the college’s Study Abroad and Student Exchange programs. Dr. Morote has successfully supported the creation of new and innovative programs and increasing the enrollment and retention rate.
Dr. Morote was the Dean of the Long Island Educational Opportunity Center (2016-2020). The LIEOC has three buildings: Farmingdale, Hempstead, and Brentwood at Farmingdale State College. Dr. Morote manages a $5.5 million budget, and the LIEOC serves 1,700 students per year. LIEOC is part of the State University of New York (SUNY). She created new programs, and implemented strategies for attracting and retaining students. She reversed decreasing enrollment, and LIEOC became number 1 in New York State for retention, enrollments and completion. She was successful in renewing performance grants and obtaining new ones. Because her grant writing ability LIEOC increased $900K LIEOC external funding.

Currently, she is a Public Management Professor at John Jay College (8/2020-on) where she enjoying teaching masters and undergraduate students, and mentoring junior faculty.
She was professor in the Graduate School of Education, Department of Educational Administration, Leadership, and Technology at Dowling College (awarded academic rank of full professor in 2012) (2003-2016). During that period, she held several leadership positions. At Dowling College, Dr. Morote initiated the doctoral mentorship program, in which Dowling Ed.D. alumni and faculty served as mentors to doctoral students and collaborated on research papers. The program has proven enormously successful and it has produced over 150 research papers that have been published or presented in peer-reviewed conferences. Dr. Morote was an architect of the Masters in Educational Technology Leadership. Dr. Morote’s students consider her to be an outstanding professor, a great mentor, and a role model. In 2015, Dowling Alumni association selected her to be honored for her contributions to their program.
